"I Lie Awake At Night": Research Alert!

professionalswhoca

Having inclusive workplace policies for caregivers is a critical DEI issue - and need to be talked about more in conversations on inclusivity and belonging.

We at Professionals Who Care would like to share breaking research on caregivers. Article found from The Gerontologist, Volume 64, Issue 1, January 2024. “’I Lay Awake at Night’: Latino Family Caregivers’ Experiences Covering Out-of-Pocket Costs When Caring for Someone Living With Dementia”

A study on Latino caregivers living with someone with dementia found that 1/2 income is spent on caregiving. The three main concerns include:

1. “Daily needs and costs”

2. “Psychological distress caused by financial issues”

3. “Stressful barriers to accessing family & societal support”

Having inclusive policies for caregivers in the workplace provides relief for each of these primary stressors.
