Our Story
We are inspired to create a voice for employed caregivers because of our own stories.
The experience of an employed caregiver often contains components of isolation, invisibility, and stress. These professionals often carry financial responsibilities, while simultaneously providing critical care. In the middle of these pressures, it is not immediately evident that the feeling of being overwhelmed, the struggles, and resulting personal growth are something that many others are experiencing. Millions of others.

Founders Joanna Schofield and Talia Selove met on LinkedIn while sharing the challenges and rewards of being an employed caregiver with each other. They both had experiences carrying these dual roles. They shared with each other how the inclusivity of the workplace played a significant factor on the well-being of themselves and the ones for whom they cared - either for the better or worse. They also found similarities in that their caregiving experience had helped them grow as individuals, and that these strengths were valuable in the workplace. JP and Talia realized that their singular voices and individual stories should be joined with other employed caregivers whose struggles and strengths are often unnamed and unrecognized in the workplace.

Professionals Who Care was founded with other selfless volunteers who are passionate about the inclusivity of employed caregivers in the workplace, each driven by our own stories and insights. Together, we seek to champion the successes, advocate for inclusivity, and increase community and allyship for employed caregivers.
